Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Governments of India and Pakistan have allocated any funds for construction and maintenance of temples of historical and archaeological importance in Pakistan;
(b) if so, the details thereof for the last three years;
(c) the names of the said temples alongwith the nature of works executed therein; and
(d) the present status of the maintenance work of these temples?

ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI E. AHAMED)

(a) Under the bilateral Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines signed in September 1974 by India and Pakistan, it is the obligation of the concerned country to make every effort to ensure that the places of worship in the agreed list of shrines under the Protocol are properly maintained and their sanctity preserved. Government has not allocated any funds for construction and maintenance of temples in Pakistan.

(b) to (d) Does not arise.
