Om Prakash Das is a Research Fellow with the Southeast Asia & Oceania Centre in the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA), New Delhi.

He has done his M.Phil. on ‘Making of the Television News in India: Aspects of Organization, Process, and Technology’ from the Centre for Media Studies (CMS) Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and pursuing Ph.D. from the same centre in JNU, New Delhi. He has authored a number of Research Papers published in UGC – Care list journals, International journals, and Peer Review journals. He has also done the ‘Defence Correspondent Course by the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India (2015)’ and produced many Defence-related television documentaries and television programs/shows.

Previously, Om Prakash was a Broadcast Journalist, News Anchor, and Senior Correspondent with India’s Public Broadcaster Doordarshan News, Lok Sabha television, and other private television channels for almost 18 years. He has been covering Defence affairs & policies, International affairs, and National security. He has covered a few crucial assignments abroad, like the Prime Minister’s visit to England, Australia, Russia, Myanmar, Fiji, etc. In addition, he has reported from Japan, South Korea (RoK), Mongolia, and Myanmar election 2012, and coverage of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, Syria, and Israel for Doordarshan News.

He has been contributing columns/op-eds/blogs to leading national publications on matters of Media trends, Media Technology, and the Economy. He has been honoured with the ‘News and Television’ award 2014 for the best Hindi documentary series, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association award for ‘Best Research Paper’ 2020, etc.

Three years later, questions unanswered on Galwan clash

Research Fellow, Manohar Parrikar IDSA, Mr Om Prakash Das’ take on three years of Galwan Clash at LAC, titled ‘Three years later, questions unanswered on Galwan clash’ has been published in ‘The Sunday Guardian’ on 18 June 2023.

For the past three years, India has conveyed to China and the world that normalization of relations is difficult until the current border issues are resolved. However, China has been maintaining that the two sides should put aside border troubles and move forward on other aspects, says Mr Das.

Research Fellow, Manohar Parrikar IDSA, Mr Om Prakash Das’ take on India’s Defence Procurement and Geopolitics, ‘Geopolitical turmoil impacts India’s defence procurements’ appeared in ‘The Sunday Guardian’ on 30th April 2023.

At this juncture, India seems to march towards a self-reliant defence production regime, but it is also true that in the foreseeable future, India will remain one of the largest importers of defence at the global level. Indian policymakers seem to adopt the concept of diversifying their supplier base while maintaining its trusted supplier, Russia, says Mr Das.
