Hot War in Syria and Options for India

Associate Fellow, IDSA, Dr Md Muddassir Quamar’s article on India’s options in the wake of the Syrian conflict, titled ‘Hot War in Syria and Options for India’ was published in the June 2018 edition of Defence and Security Alert.

Analysing the regional balance of power, the article suggests that India’s ability to maintain friendly relations with all regional adversaries, namely Saudi Arabia, Iran, Israel and Turkey and its ability to balance its relations between global powers, namely the US, Russia and China, will be severely tested, and India would do well to work with all stakeholders and multinational organisations to prevent the Syrian conflict to become a regional conflict.

Associate Fellow, IDSA, Dr Md Muddassir Quamar’s research paper titled ‘Indo-Saudi Relations: Emerging Strategic Dimensions’ was published by King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dr Quamar describes India and Saudi Arabia as two ascending powers, both being G-20 economies and important players in respective regions of South Asia and Middle East, in his paper. He suggests that the Indo-Saudi relations are poised to gain a strategic dimension, based on common concerns and interests in security and defense cooperation and business investments.
