Does India endorse a US-led regional order?

Research Fellow, IDSA, Dr Jagannath Panda’s article on the strategic partnership between India and the United States, titled ‘Does India endorse a US-led regional order?’ was published in East Asia Forum on September 23, 2018.

India’s vision of a regional order is not aligned closely with the US-led order. And certainly improving its relationships with the United States doesn’t mean that India is willing to retreat from building its relationships with China as a vital regional partner, writes Dr Panda.

Seoul may have shown restrain in openly endorsing the concept ‘Indo-Pacific’ as it has been carefully treading its foreign policy between China-led and US-led regional environments, writes Dr Panda. This has, however, not discouraged the Moon administration from positioning South Korean interests more intently in the Indo-Pacific region. South Korean President’s three-day visit to India from July 08 rationalises the ‘newness’ of his new southern policy, he adds.
